The first anniversary of Vulture Magazine and the coming- out of the new Marc by Marc Jacobs store at ION Orchard was my first introduction to the Singapore fashion crowd. It came from my friend Amanda from www.wearenotlikeeveryone.com and proved to be a closer relative to East London style than anything else I could compare it to. The event goers were clad in kooky prints, retro- luxe ensembles and overall did a good job of exuding that youthful and eccentric Marc Jacobs vibe. A little satirical fun came in the form of a live Instagram feed of pictures tagged with #mmjvulture. It was an ode to narcissism and a great talking point of the night.
The event at 72-13 was tame, tasteful and at times seriously weird- for no better description comes to mind. Whilst the night was young, The Analog Girl opened the violet dark room with a surreal, trance- like sound. Runway shows and beautiful photography by the fabulous Zhang Jingna were exhibited in the atmospheric space. At the gallery and bar were pretty pastel bruises on vinyl pasted to the walls; neutral, sweet and a compliment to the foamy pink cocktails that were served. On the other side were high saturated, rural fantasy landscapes that Frodo Baggins would envy.
And my outfit? It was an old favourite fitted dress, Chanel pumps and a transparent clutch. Something feminine and modern with a classic touch, a simple and comfortable look.
